Christian Apologetics

Christian Apologetics is the branch of theology that is concerned with defending or proving the truth of Christian doctrines

The following statement on Christian apologetics is taken from Wikipedia and states, Christian apologetics is a field of Christian theology that presents a rational basis for the Christian faith, defend the faith against objections, and expose the perceived flaws of other world views.[1] Christian apologetics have taken many forms over the centuries, starting with Paul of Tarsus, including writers such as Origen and Augustine of Hippo, and continuing currently with the modern Christian community, through the efforts of many authors in various Christian traditions such as C.S. Lewis. Apologists have based their defense of Christianity on historical evidence, philosophical arguments, scientific investigation, and other disciplines.

Four Soils Ministry believes that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the “Word of God” (Rom 10:17). We believe that God uses His Holy Spirit (Comforter), His creation, His Commandments, and our consciences to convict men of sin, His righteousness and the coming judgment (John 16:8)

Paul states in Romans 1:20,” For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” Paul also states in Romans 2:15, “ They demonstrate that God's law is written within them, for their own consciences either accuse them or tell them they are doing what is right.” (nlt).

The Book of Isaiah includes God's entreaty, "Come now, let us reason together" (1:18, ESV).

The Book of Acts contains a description of the apologetic example of Paul, who "reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be there" (17:17).

A common concern in the history of Christianity is that apologetics deny the role of faith and, some argue, that they seem to offer a way to "reason oneself" into the kingdom of heaven. However, many Christians understand the Bible to command the defense of the Christian faith when it says that one should "always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have" (1 Peter 3:15).

Regardless of your personal view we feel that it important for each Christian to have a basic understanding of a Christian apologetics.
